Cultural Camps and Exchanges

CULTURAL EXCHANGE OUTCOMES AND BENEFITS…

During our Yambanga Yundi exchange, we surveyed our young people pre and post program. Here is what we found…

  1. Increased pride in cultural identity. All participants noted a significant increase in pride for their cultural identity.

  2. Increased culutral knowledge was noted. This appeared to have the largest increase from 1 (being little to no knowledge) to 5 (being a signigicant amount of knowledge). Majority of participants felt their knowledge increased to a 4 or 5, scale wise.

  3. Meaningful cross-cultural connections. We found all of our young people had fostered meaningful cross-cultural connections by the end of the program, which also gave them an increased responsibility to their own culture in terms of ensuring it continues on.

  4. All guardians/parents of the paticipating clients reported a notable increase in the young people’s confidence and happiness.

  5. All young people have continued to actively engage in the community, using culture as a vessle for connection and learning.

We here at Groove Co. had the pleasure of engaging in our first cultural exchange to Aotearoa New Zealand earlier this year with the funding support of the U.S Department of State, Ergon Energy and Stanwell Corporation. During this exchange we made history by being the first Aboriginal Dance group to perform at the biggest Polynesian festival in the world, Polyfest. Moving into 2024, we will be engaging in international and national exchanges which will be announced in the coming months.

During this year we have also kicked off cultural camps and tours upon request in the Rockhampton (QLD, AUS) region. These will soon be available to the public soon.

Our Cultural Exchanges:

  • Yambanga Yuindi Cultural Immersion & Exchange (AUS & NZ)

  • Nation to Nation Exchange (Indigenous Australian to Indigenous Australian exchanges within the nation)

  • We are open to other exchanges, with a focus on the Pacific. If you are interested in engaging with us, please reach out through our email or contact form.

Our Cultural Camps:

  • Our cultural camps are by request and conducted in partnership with Mundagatta Culture Pty Ltd., Darumbal Community Youth Service Inc., Dreamtime Cultural Centre and Groove Co. These are based in Rockhampton only at this time.
